The meeting of the Volusia
County Democratic Party will be
held on Monday May 19th, 7:00
p.m.* at the Daytona Beach
Community College in the U.C.F.
Auditorium located in building
150, 1200 W. International
Speedway Blvd, Daytona Beach, FL
32114 (Map
- Directions) *Vote
Builder workshop will be
held at 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
same location.
Election of Precinct
Committeemen and Committeewomen
Democrats who wish to run for the
position on Precinct
Committeemen or Committeewomen
must complete Form DS-DE 24C (Click
here to download).
All applications are due by 12
NOON on June 20th, no
exceptions. The qualifying
period opens on June 13th, so
please make sure to deliver your
applications to the Department
of Election no latter than noon
on June 20th.
The 2008 Primary is set for
August 26, 2008. You can not be
running as a Precinct Committee
person and any other office. The
commencement for office of newly
elected committee members begins
on December 1, 2008.

available online.
The Volusia County
Democratic Party is asking
Volusia County Voters to
participate in a new Florida
Democratic Party Survey.
Political surveys are
typically done by canvassers
who either visit or call
voters but the Volusia
County Democratic Party is
testing a new method -
Voters who have an email on
file with the Volusia County
Democratic Party should soon
receive an email inviting
them to participate in a
short Florida Democratic
Party survey. The email will
contain a unique coded link
to the survey. After
completing the survey the
result will be fed into the
"Vote Builder" (Democratic
Party Online Voter File
System). Voters who do not
have and email on file but
wish to participate in this
and future surveys can
register online at
www.volusiavote.com.
Vote Builder Workshop.
The Volusia County
Democratic Party IT
Committee will conduct a
"Vote Builder" (Democratic
Party Online Voter File
System) workshop on
May 19th, at 6:00 pm. This
workshop is open to all
Democrats interested in
volunteering in the 2008
election. The workshop will
be held in the same room as
the monthly meeting
scheduled for 7:00 pm

Mourns Loss of Florida Dem
Icon "Red" Lackey -
'04's Oldest National
Convention Delegate Passes
at Age of 93
TALLAHASSEE - Florida
Democratic Party Chair Karen Thurman issued the following statement today on the
life of Florida Democratic icon E. G. "Red" Lackey of Ormond Beach:"
Through his many years of
committed activism, Red Lackey earned the respect and affection of Democrats of
all ages and from every corner of the state. No job was too big or too small for
Red if it helped elect Democrats. He worked so hard and touched so many lives
over the years. "He rarely missed a
Democratic Party event, and he always stood out in a crowd with his famous
homemade donkey hat. At the young age of 90, Red Lackey was the oldest delegate
to attend the 2004 Democratic National Convention. He embodied the term 'Yellow
Dog Democrat.'
"Last year, I
had the honor and privilege of attending his
93rd birthday
party, where I met his wonderful family and close friends. A natural
story-teller, it was clear that Red truly lived a full life." On behalf of the
Florida Democratic Party and Democrats everywhere, I wish to express our deepest
condolences and best wishes to Red Lackey's family. To say we'll miss him is a
grand understatement."
